Mexican Taj Mahal in Acámbaro


The Taj Mahal is an iconic monument in India that was built between 1631 and 1653; in Mexico, its beauty was replicated in the community of Las Cruces, just 12 kilometers from Acámbaro, in Guanajuato.

It is a temple created to venerate the Virgin of Guadalupe and inspired by the imposing architecture of the Taj Mahal.

It was inaugurated on 28 December of 2014 and is the work of the architect José Ignacio, who edify required for voluntary contributions that migrants sent, why construction took 11 years.

Its finishes are from quarry from Tlalpujahua ( Michoacán ), so its construction was extremely expensive. In addition, it has a similar pattern to the Taj Mahal in terms of its finishes and architecture of Islamic, Persian, Indian, and Turkish type.

It is made up of five domes, as well as arches with stained glass windows and various details of neoclassical architecture. Four towers stand out, located in the corners of the temple, which provide an imposing touch to the construction.

Its magnificence has made this temple one of the wonders of Guanajuato, surprising locals and strangers for its beauty and resemblance to the emblematic construction of India.

The original temple was in another part of the town, but it was demolished and later built on the current property that belonged to Francisco Uribe, who inherited it to his daughters to be built there.
